Born in Anderson to Mary Edith Fleming Shirley and the late William Bruce Shirley, Sr., Mary graduated from Belton Honea Path High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering, Summa Cum Laude from Clemson University.

Richard “Dick” Martley
Honea Path – Richard John Martley, 85, husband of Elizabeth Larsen Martley, of 519 Holiday Dam Rd., died Friday, January 1, 2016 at AnMed Heath Medical Center.
Born in New Haven, CT, he was a son of the late Claire Martley O’Connor. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Anderson, and was retired from Western Electric. Mr. Martley also served in the United States Air Force.
In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by two sons: Richard Larsen Martley and wife Nicolene of Charleston and Michael William Martley and wife Aphina of Tbilisi, Georgia; one daughter: Debra Elizabeth DeMarco and husband John of South Amboy, NJ; two brothers: Edward O’Connor and Pat O’Connor; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was pre-deceased by six sisters: Dottie, Marion, Molly, Claire, Margie, and Eileen.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, January 8, 2016 at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. J. Chris Fischer officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans’ Cemetery.
The family is at the home, and will receive friends Friday, from 12 to 1 PM, prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 209 Broad St., Anderson, SC, 29621.
