Sara Thompson

Ware Shoals – Sara Nell Coker Thompson, 82, widow of Luther Kenneth Thompson, Sr., of 890 TV Tower Rd, died Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Hospice Care of the Piedmont.

Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Beatrice Nelson Coker. She was a member of Mt. Gallagher Baptist Church and was retired from Riegel Textile Corp.

Surviving are: one son, Roger Dale Davenport of Waterloo, three daughters, Karen Hughes (Rick) of Ware Shoals, Kemmy Hanley of Ware Shoals and Karolyn Calliham of  Waterloo, one brother; Earl Coker of Laurens, one sister, Mary Bayne of Ware Shoals, twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and special niece and caregiver, Brenda Thompson Hicks of Ware Shoals. She was predeceased by one son, Ken Thompson, Jr., one daughter, Nancy Hannah, two brothers, Bill Coker and Ernest “Red” Coker and one sister, Dorothy Collins, and a grandson, Jonathan Hannah.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2016 at Parker-White Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Marcus Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home of a daughter, 1415 Harmony Rd, and will receive friends 1-2 p.m. Monday prior to service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Self Regional Healthcare Foundation - Cancer Center, 1325 Spring St, Greenwood, SC 29646.
