William Leon Dodson

Ware Shoals – William Leon Dodson, 87, of 40 Green Acres Drive, Ware Shoals, SC, died June 25, 2012, at Roger C. Peace Rehabilitation Hospital in Greenville, SC.

Born March 18, 1925, in Ware Shoals, he was the son of the late Raymond and Furnida Martin Dodson. He was a lifelong member and former deacon of First Baptist Church of Ware Shoals.

He was a member and past president of the Ware Shoals Lions Club, a member of the Ware Shoals Community Foundation, and a past member of the Greenwood City/County Planning Commission. He retired from State Farm Insurance Company after 37 years as an agent.

Mr. Dodson was an Army veteran and recipient of two purple hearts for wounds sustained in World War II.Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Betty Hoard Dodson, of the home; a sister, Joyce Dodson Malone; a son, William L. Dodson, Jr and his wife, Susan of Greenville; two daughters, Betty Anne Dodson Black and her husband, Bryan of Easley; and Beverly Dodson Dozier and her husband, Robert of Atlanta, GA; and seven grandchildren: Virginia, Susannah, Paul Bryan, Walker, Rob, Will, and Eliza. He was predeceased by a sister, Bernice Dodson Jones.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 Thursday at First Baptist Church, Ware Shoals, with Reverend Leon Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 before the service at the church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens with military honors. Barney Medlock

Princeton - Barney George Medlock, 84, of 11781 Augusta Road, Honea Path, widower of Frances Juanita Nichols Medlock, went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 26, 2012.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Lude Odell and Corrine Lollis Medlock. He was a member of Columbia Baptist Church, and the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was an avid gardener, loved kids, loved the Lord and would never miss church. He was retired from BASF Fibers, was a former employee of Riegel Textile Corporation.

Surviving are three daughters; Connie Medlock Stamp and husband Joel of Belton, Jean Medlock Darby and husband Odell of Columbia and Jane Lee and husband Ray of Honea Path; three sisters, Doris Brooks and husband Curtis of Princeton, Thelma Williams of Hickory Tavern and Ora Belle Clinkscales and husband Jimmy of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Adam Gagnon of the home and Lindsay Gagnon of Honea Path. He was predeceased by a son, Steven Allen Medlock, and a daughter, Martha Ann Medlock and three brothers, Joe, William and Grover Medlock.

Funeral services will be held at 4PM Thursday at Columbia Baptist Church with Rev. Scotty Hendricks, Rev. Ken Whitt, Rev. Phil Dyar and Rev. Ed Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

James Cooper

Greenwood – James Alexander Cooper, 89, widower of Elizabeth Timms Cooper, of 2281 Montague Avenue Ext., died Saturday June 23, 2012 at Wesley Commons.

Born in Ware Shoals and reared in the Nations Road Community, he was a son of the late Alexander Foster and Ruby Murff Cooper. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and retired from Riegel Textile Corporation with 38 years service. He was an avid gardener and Clemson Tiger supporter.

He was a US Army veteran of WWII where he served in the European Theater of Operations as an infantryman. After being injured in battle, he went on to serve as a Military Police Officer in General George Patton’s Home Guard until his discharge.

He is survived by a son, Keith Cooper of Greenwood.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Parker-White Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Lethco and Rev. George Hill officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Matthew McClain

Anderson – Matthew McClain, 46, of 238 Pearman Road, widower of Shirley Vaughn McClain, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late James and Vertie Mae Elmore McClain.  He was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church and was formerly employed with Wells Aluminum.

Surviving are:  two step-daughters, Sandra Vaughn of Belton and Terry Bowen of Anderson; two brothers, John W. McClain and Luke George McClain; two sisters, Annie Mae McClain of Williamston and Brenda Chadwick of Donalds; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by a sister, Maggie LaCount.

Jerlean Campbell McClain

Belton – Jerelean Agnes Campbell McClain, 78, widow of Clyde Junior McClain, of 1529 Bethany Church Rd., died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Leona Cleveland Campbell. She was a member of Keowee Baptist Church and was retired from Honea Path Shirtmakers.

Surviving are three sons, Dennis McClain and wife Elaine of Pelzer, Jackie McClain and wife Kathy of Piedmont, and Rickey McClain and wife Donna of Donalds; three daughters, Connie Brock and husband Mike of Honea Path,  Debbie Hilton of Belton, and Donna Hoffstetter of Belton; a sister, Evelyn Brock of Anderson; a nephew raised in the home, Marshall Campbell of Wilmington, NC; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

She was pre-deceased by a son, Tony Randall McClain; a daughter, Judy Earline McClain; one brother, David Campbell; two sisters, Carolyn Turner and Wilma Brock; a grandson, Travis Brock, and a great-grandson, Tyler Hilton.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Friday at Keowee Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Lee and Rev. Carroll Plemmons officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 P.M. Friday at Keowee Baptist Church prior to the service. The family is at the home.
