William M. “Red” Bowie

Ware Shoals – William Maurice “Red” Bowie, 91, husband of Sara Watt Bowie of 24 E. Summit Drive, died Sunday August 7, 2011.

Born in Greenwood County, he was the son of the late R. Wallace and Mary Lou Balentine Bowie. He was a member of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir and of the Calliham – Morgan Sunday School class. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, was a shriner and a member of Ware Shoals Lodge #306 A.F.M. He was owner and operator of Bowie’s Grocery Store for more than 40 years and had most recently been employed by Piggly Wiggly in Ware Shoals. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
