Howard Henderson
Howard “Blackie” Henderson, 76, husband of Martha Davis Henderson of 26 West Main St. died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. He was born in Greenwood County, a son of the late Henry Grady and Jessie Pitts Henderson.
Mr. Henderson served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was later retired from the S.C. National Guard after 43 years of service. He retired from Riegel Textile Corporation and was employed by Ware Shoals District 51 at Ware Shoals High School. The Annual was dedicated to him in the year 2000. He was a member of West Main Street Church of God.
Surviving besides his wife of the home are: two sons, Lamar Henderson and wife Bennie, Cross Hill and Mike Henderson and wife, Tammy of Ware Shoals and a daughter, Jane Henderson, Greenville.
Also a brother, H.G. “Boots” Henderson, Waterloo and a sister, Zelle Skinner, Ware Shoals, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was pre-deceased by four brothers, Laurens, Austin, Gerald and Lynn Henderson and two sisters, Billie Bradshaw and Ada Cooper.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 pm at West Main Street Church of God with Rev. Dr. Charles Smith and Rev. Dr. Marcus Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
Active pallbearers will be Stanley Henderson, Casey Henderson, Frank Moore Cooper, Mark Henderson, Keith Skinner, Ernie Major, Keith Martin and Brad Ricketts.Honorary Pallbearers are Kenneth Henderson and the Mens Sunday School Class.
The family is at the home and will receive friends Saturday 12:30 to 2 at West Main Street Church of God. Memorials may be made to the church.
