Ruth Allen

Candler, NC - Carrie Ruth Jordan Allen, 89, formerly of Fairmont Rd., Candler, North Carolina, widow of the late Ernest C. Allen, passed away Monday, February 8, 2010, at Wesley Commons Nursing Home in Greenwood, S.C.

Born August 31, 1920 in Murphy, N.C., she was the daughter of the late John Jasper Jordan and Arizona Mann Jordan. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She retired as a nurse from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville after thirty years.

Surviving are her daughter, Judith Allen and son-in-law, Allard Young of Honea Path, SC; her son, Marvin E. Allen of Candler, NC; six grandchildren, Cheryl Nick of Cave Cove, AZ., Dana Hunter, Andrea Richardson both of Arden, Brad Allen of Waynesville, Maj. Carl Young of Fairfax, VA., and Carrie Young Place of Honea Path; eleven great grandchildren, Josh Lingerfelt, Carolina Nick, Justin Whittemore, Lauren Whittemore, Jake Richardson, Caroline Richardson, Olivia Richardson, Breanna Allen, Brooklyn Allen, Anne Hensley Young and Sydney Place; two special sisters-in-law, Lillian Jordan of Canton, Blanche Allen Bennett of Candler and a very special niece, Lynnette Hill of Asheville.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Major Jordan and Willis Jordan and three sisters, Pauline Jordan Haselden, Emma Jordan Campbell and Katherine Jordan Hill.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 1-3 PM at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Candler, N.C., where she was a member. Funeral Services will be held at the church following visitation at 3PM with interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Enka, N.C.
