Tony White
Tony Dale White, 62, of 107 Overhill Drive, met his Heavenly Father and left to be with his beloved mother Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Center. Tony lost a seventeen year battle with primary pulmonary hypertension, which is a very rare lung disease. Tony’s strong will to live and love of family and friends allowed him to persist against all predictions. Even though Tony had a pump with medication direct to his heart and used oxygen twenty four hours a day, he never lost Faith and his love of living. Tony often thought about all the people he had come in contact or had worked with at Dow. Tony loved going back to Mauldin to walk through his memories . Tony is survived by his father, Herbert M. White of their home at 1 Davis Street, Ware Shoals, a sister, Sonya (Mrs. Leon) Wiggins of Columbia, niece, Sheri Jennelle (Mrs. Jason) of Blacksburg, Va., a great niece and nephew, Emma Grace and Jason Skye Jennelle of Blacksburg, Va., Wayne T. Mullinax of Duncan, his brother in Christ with whom he lived since 1996.
Tony was born in Honea Path and grew up in Ware Shoals, graduating Valedictorian of the class of 1965 of Ware Shoals High School. Tony’s formative years were spent in academics, winning many academic achievements. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Erskine College in 1969 and took a position with Texize which later became Dow Chemical.
Tony loved his hometown of Ware Shoals, especially the High School and the Hornets, returning as often as possible. Tony was unable to return for Christmas 2009 for the first time to enjoy the lights around the Square and the homes in town. He loved sports and followed every game, especially football. Tony never met a stranger and loved to talk to young people especially about how important an education and ambitions are for their future, never missing the opportunity to witness to everyone he met about His Savior, Jesus Christ. Tony’s love of life, his compassion, the touch of his gentle hand and the sound of his soft voice will live forever.
