Marvin “Pete” Powell

Marvin Benton “Pete” Powell, 92 went to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 10, 2009. He was born in Carnsville, Ga., a son of the late W.E. and Maude Lloyd Powell. Mr. Powell was twice married, to the late Ellie Pace Powell and the late Mallie Varnum Powell. He was retired from Riegel Textile Corp and was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy and Zion Assembly Church of God.

Surviving is a son, Bobby Joe Powell, Sr. and wife Willie Mae, Hodges, grandsons, Joey Powell and wife, Jeannie, Waterloo ; Benny Powell and wife Lisa, Greenwood, great granddaughter, Ashlee Powell and a stepson, Larry Varnum and wife, Joyce.

He was predeceased by great granddaughter, Jennifer Powell Mitchell.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted Friday, 2 pm at The Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Faye Davis, Rev. William Sheppard, and the Rev. Mark Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Steve Kerr, James Lyerly, R.C. Vaughn, Wayne Moore, Cecil Boggs, Robert Hill, Avery Ashley and James Williamson Jr.

The Honorary escort will be Hoyt Hembree, Richard Davis, Rayford Reynolds, Dr. Darby Pendergrass, Melvin Morrell, Roger Hall, and the Staff of Station 3 NHC of Greenwood..

The family will be at the home of Bobby Joe and Willie Mae Powell Hwy. 25, Hodges, and will receive friends Thursday, 6—8 pm at Parker-White Funeral Home. The Body will be placed in the Church at 1 pm Friday.
