Cross Hill
William Lamar Gates, 69, husband of Deanna M. McClellan Gates died Sunday, October 11, 2009 at his home. He was born in Ware Shoals, a son of the late Clifford E. and Edna Thompson Gates. Mr. Gates was retired from Torrington and was a member of Cross Hill First Baptist Church.
He was a 1958 graduate of Ware Shoals High School, graduate of Lander University and Piedmont Technical College. He was a member of Cross Hill Masonic Lodge #159 and he was a Shriner.
Surviving besides his wife of the home are two daughters, Sheri I. Gates Burton, Ware Shoals and Marcy Gates, Edgefield, three grandchildren, Matthew Landers, Katrina Landers, and L. Marrale White, two great grandchildren, Alyssa and Courtney Brown, two nephews, Brandon Gates and Rev. Billy McClellan, two great nieces, Emily and Caitlyn McClellan and two great nephews, William McClellan and Austin Gates.
He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Kerri “KoKo” Gates, and a brother, Clifford Ray “Fuzz” Gates.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, 3 pm at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Curtis Marshall and Rev. Dr. Marcus Bishop officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted.
Active pallbearers will be Matthew Landers, Dusty Nelson, James “Jim” Eye, Bill Turner and Johnny Burton.
The families will be at their respective homes and will receive friends Tuesday, 7-8 pm at Parker-White Funeral Home.
