Margaret Brock

Honea Path – Margaret Brunson Brock passed away September 1st, 2009 at Carlisle Nursing Center at the age of 96 ½. Her parents were William Hartwell and Caroline Henize Brunson of Greelyville, S.C. She was the widow of James Otto Brock of Honea Path. She is survived by her daughter Caroline Brock of 113 West Hampton Avenue, Honea Path. Other survivors are one sister, Mary Brunson Cook of Petersburg, Va., three nieces and three nephews, cousins Beth and Bob Newburn of Aiken, S.C., and Edward Newburn of Falls Church, Va.

Margaret was valedictorian of Greelyville High School. She completed her nurses training at Anderson County Hospital, passed her state boards, and became a registered nurse. She enjoyed being a supervisor for the Anderson County Hospital. In 1937 she married James Otto Brock and moved to Honea Path. She was a leader and active member in the Honea Path Presbyterian Church and in many Honea Path community organizations. Margaret was a charter member of the Emily Geiger DAR and Honea Path Dogwood Garden Club. Margaret, Sarah Greer Vaughn and Margaret Wright Williams worked diligently to get the Honea Path Cemetery Foundation established. Margaret was the first zoning code chairman for the Town of Honea Path. She became owner and operator of Brock Brothers Hardware and active member of the Merchants Association. She was a strong supporter of the Honea Path Free Clinic.

Margaret held many offices in the Honea Path Presbyterian Women’s Work. She was an active and faithful member of the Honea Path Presbyterian Church for 72 years.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday at the Honea Path Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30 – 8 P.M. in the sanctuary of the church.
