Rev. Roderick Carver
Ware Shoals - Reverend Roderick Carver, 78, of 84 Turkey Creek Drive, passed away at his home in Ware Shoals on Sunday, June 29, 2008. He leaves behind a devoted wife of 60 years, Jimmie Rose Haynes Carver.
Born July 2, 1929 in Greenville, SC, he was a son of the late James Furman and Juanita Winn Carver. Rev. Carver graduated in 1946 from Parker High School, he then studied at Biola College and Seminary in California. He was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1951. He served many churches in FL, LA, CA, and GA before returning to pastor again in SC where he retired from Turkey Creek Baptist Church in Ware Shoals in 2005. As was his father before him, he was a plumber and pipefitter by trade and was a long-standing member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 582 (Santa Ana, CA), having been initiated in 1959.
He will always be remembered lovingly as a devout man of God, devoted to his churches and church family and even more so as a dedicated husband, loving father, and extra special Papa. He always made his family his top priority.
Surviving besides his wife are one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Ron Mitchell of Ware Shoals, two sons, Stephen Carver of Hickory, NC and Daniel and Nell Carver of Easley; grandchildren Traci and Kevin McKee, Darci and Chris Horne, Rachel and Gilbert Wilson, Manolo Tackels, Tyler and Don Cipriani, Stephanie Carver, Amanda Mitchell, Mat and Kristi Tackels, Kenny Mitchell, David and Nicole Carpenter, Jenifer Jones, Amy Carpenter and Micah Taylor; great grandchildren Sydni, Michael, Nicolas, Max, Gabe, Ciera, Jake, Braydon and Emilee; numerous nieces and nephews and many faithful family friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Slatten, Rev. Robert Emory, and Rev. James Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Turkey Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The body is at Parker-White Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 10 A.M. Wednesday. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 P.M. Tuesday at Parker-White Funeral Home. The family is at the home. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave, Greenwood, SC 29646.
