Born in Morristown TN on August 12, 1948, he was of the Baptist Faith and was retired from the U.S. Army. He served with the 101st Airborne in the Vietnam War
Surviving are his two sons, Chris Smith and Sonny Smith of both of Honea Path, a sister Diane Smith, and numerous other relatives in S.C. and TN.
