Born to Cleve and Lou Ellen Cooper on August 24, 1942, Barbara was the 2nd of 8 children. She married Dixie Mattison on December 23 1961 and welcomed their son Damas in 1967. A graduate of Charzan Beauty School, she owned and operated Barbara’s Beauty Boutique from 1974 to 2012. She was an active member at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school classes, vacation bible school, was a Cub Scout Den mother, and a volunteer teacher with Released Time at Ware Shoals Elementary School. She never hesitated to lend a helping hand, make a meal, or contribute her many talents to the aid of others.
Predeceased are her husband of 59 years, Dixie Lea Mattison; her parents, her sisters Nancy O’Sheilds, Phyllis Smith Rogers, Debra Holley, and Karla Barbery.
She is survived by her son Damas (Beth) Mattison, her grandchildren Chloe (Joshua) Landrigan and Mason Mattison, her great granddaughters Eleanor and Evelyn, her sisters Rebecca (Charles) Nalley and Billee Cooper, her brother Mike Cooper, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will be at Poplar Springs Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 31st at 4 p.m. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary at 3 p.m.
