He was born in Greenwood County to the late Jimmy Johnson and Alice Godfrey Collins. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, a graduate of Ware Shoals High School, and a member of the Gold Wing Riders Association. He retired from Flour Daniel and later worked for Day and Zimmerman at nuclear plants. He had a passion for speed and classic cars.
John is survived by his wife, Patricia Collins of the home; 4 daughters: Dawn Collins of Greenwood, Candy Lee (Mark) of Greenwood, Crystal Hipp (Wade) of Saluda, Patience Payne, of Greenwood; two step-sons, Danny Dawkins, of Anderson and Andy Dawkins, of Ware Shoals; a sister, Rosemary Ross, of Ware Shoals, twelve grandchildren,, and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharla Collins, a step-son, Richard Dawkins, and a sister, Lynn Hinton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Steve McGaha officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
