Born in Elberton, GA, he was the son of the late Wilbur T. “Bill” and Inez Jones Bishop. He graduated from Ware Shoals High School, Class of 1960, and furthered his education at Clemson University and Mars Hill College. His career included work at Riegel Textile Co. in both Ware Shoals and Johnston, Neptune and FL Aerospace of Greenwood, and was the 1989 founder of Southern Cultured Marble, Inc. of Ware Shoals. He was a member of the Ware Shoals First Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the South Carolina Army National Guard.
Surviving are two daughters, Cathy Dority (Joseph) of Ware Shoals and Sheri Fricks (Dale) of Greenwood, a son Scott Bishop of Waterloo, eight grandchildren, Emily, Justin (Allie), and William Fricks, Taylor (Bailee) and Zac Bishop, all of Greenwood, and Jack, Ben, and Luke Dority of Ware Shoals; and two great grandchildren, Addy Grace and Carter Fricks. He is also survived by a special cousin Patsy (Ed) Arnold of Ware Shoals.
His grandsons, Justin, William, Taylor, Zac, Jack, and Louie, will serve as active pallbearers, with honorary pallbearers including Bob Cobb, Buddy Cobb, Mark Mann, Brian Mobley, Tim Luker, Harry Smith, Jay Bishop, Dr. David Riley, and Dr. Brian Welcome.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at the Ware Shoals First Baptist Church, Ware Shoals with Rev. Dr. Floyd Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
