Born in Trion, GA, he was a son of the late John Reed, Sr. and Doris Hayes Hartline. He was a member of Mt. Gallagher Baptist Church. He was retired from Louis Rich “Kraft” plant in Newberry and had formerly worked at Monsanto. He was a graduate of Ware Shoals High School, Class of 1972 and Piedmont Tech. He was a member of Brewerton Lodge # 183 A.F.M. and was Past Master of both Ware Shoals # 306 A.F.M. and Magnolia # 355 A.F.M. of Joanna, and a member of Hejaz Shrine Temple. John was a former Chief of the Ware Shoals Fire Department and was co-owner of Outback Bees of Ware Shoals.
Surviving are his son, John Hunter Hartline (Dana) of Ware Shoals, a sister, Mrs. Steve (Reita) Pohlman of Due West, a granddaughter, Jensyn Elizabeth Hartline, and a nephew Stephen Pohlman, Jr. (Jaime) of Edgefield.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Mt. Gallagher Baptist Church with Rev. Nathan Wiles and Rev. Dr. Marcus Bishop officiating with Masonic Rites to follow. Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park, Hodges.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM at Mt. Gallagher Baptist Church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers Memorials should be made to Widows Sons Brothers Keepers Chapter, 4 Elrod Dr., Williamston, SC 29697 or to the charity of one’s choice.
