Born in Brevard, NC, he was a son of the late John Coatsworth and Mabel Louise Gantt Cassell. He was a member, deacon, and teacher of Seekers Sunday School class at Rosemont Baptist Church. He was a 1965 graduate of Rosman High in Transylvania County, NC. He was a decorated veteran of the United States Army Ranger Special Forces serving two tours in Vietnam where he received three Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was a retired Salesman with W.R. Grace Co. in Greenville, SC.
Surviving are: his wife Lou of the home, a son, Scott Cooper Cassell (Clara) of Clarksville, VA, a daughter, Shannon Noble (Darrin) of Canton, OH, five grandchildren: Andrea, Dakota Noble (Annamarie), William Rasper (Dakayla), Allie Pickens, and Macy Pickens. He was predeceased by a brother, Alan Cassell.
Family Memorial services will be held at 4 PM on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Rosemont Baptist Church, Waterloo, with Dr. K.J. Shorter officiating.
