Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Mary Thaxton Ashley and the late Bobby Floyd Rice. He was a truck driver, a graduate of Ware Shoals High School Class of 1984, and was an avid race fan.
Surviving are his mother, Mary Ashley of Ware Shoals, his wife, Renee Seamans Rice, a daughter, Kayla Leedy (Brian) of Waterloo, a step-daughter, Candi Culbertson of Simpsonville, a brother Dale Rice (Tammy) of Honea Path, two grandchildren, Lizzie Leedy and Carleigh Culbertson, two uncles, Rick and Robert Strickland, and two aunts, Dee Dee Brown and Dolly Ann Lindley.
He was predeceased by his father, a sister, Tammy Jones, his step-father, Randy Ashley, and three aunts, Kathy, Judy, and Debra.
