Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Janie Bigby Sharpe. She was a member of Trinity UMC in Anderson and was the owner and operator of Mom’s Hand Me Downs in Anderson for 32 years. Mrs. Gilbert was affectionately known as “MeMe” by everyone. She loved the beach, her pool and her flowers, but her heart belonged to her grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her devoted husband of 54 years are: her son, Brent (Alicia) Gilbert of Brevard, NC; her daughter, Heather (Paul) Lewis of Anderson; and five grandchildren, Fletcher Gilbert, Rider Gilbert, Ruby Claire Gilbert, Paul Henry Lewis and Ellee Lewis.
Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Nancy Fleming.
Graveside services will be held at 12 noon, Friday, June 21, 2024 at Garden of Memories.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends from 10:30 – 11:30 A.M. Friday at Pruitt Funeral Home prior to the service. The family request memorials be made to The ALS Association at www.als.org
