Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late John Murff Sr. and Janie Bell Bolt Simpson. He was a member of the Ware Shoals First Baptist Church and was retired as MSgt. after 42 years of service in the South Carolina Army National Guard. He was a member of the Ware Shoals Lodge #406 A.F.M. After graduating in the Class of 1953, Ware Shoals High School, he graduated from Erskine College.
Surviving are his wife, Ellen of the home, two daughters, Melanie Aga (Rick) of Greenwood and Jill Evans (Ricky) of Easley, five grandchildren, Amy (Cory) Simpson, Cody (Brittany) Aga, Dwight (Bethany) Evans, Dewey (Lindsey) Evans, and Della Evans, and six great-grandchildren, Caleb, Allie, Madison, Anna, Eliza, and Rebekah.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday, June 10, 2024 at the Ware Shoals First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Floyd Parker and Rev. Leon Jones officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 PM on Monday at the church prior to the service.
