Born November 26, 1927, in Honea Path, SC, he was the son of the late Paul Lee Black and Brinnie Dale Cothran Black. He was a faithful lifetime member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a retired truck driver for Mount Vernon Mills after 33 years, as well as a Ware Shoals Railroad train engineer. He served in the U.S. Army after World War II in Japan. He was also a longtime cattle and dairy farmer and ran a cotton gin with his brother’s. He was married for 77 years to the love of his life, Marcelle Black who says, “he was a friend to everyone he met.”
In addition to his wife of the home, Guy is survived by his son Kenny Black (Cindy) and his daughter Betty Vaughn (Phil) of Honea Path; four grandchildren: Angie Cape (Derrill) of Seneca, Leigh Ann Alewine (Nathan), Ami McGaha (Jeffrey), and Josh Black (Ragan) of Honea Path; nine great-grandchildren: Logan Crawford (Jake), Brady Alewine, Kennedy McGaha, Eli Cape, Avery Black, Lane McGaha, Riggs Black, Lilly Kate Jennings, and Beau Evans; and one great-great grandson: Guy Crawford.
He was preceded in death by his infant son Bobby Lee Black. As well as his five brothers: Severn, Roy, Albert, Jake, and Carl Black; one sister: Helen Black Belu; and one great granddaughter: Collins Black.
Receiving of friends will be held at 6-8 PM on Sunday, March 24 at Pruitt Funeral Home, Honea Path.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 25 at Friendship Baptist Church. The graveside service will follow.
