Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Homer and Venice Shaw Smith. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was a Vietnam Veteran, having retired from the U.S. Air Force as SMSgt after 24 years where he was with the 4612W0 Ammo Yas. He was a member of the 9th Ammo Chiefs Association. He later retired from AnMed Health of Anderson. He was fond of gardening, fishing, and fast cars.
Surviving are a brother, Clarence Smith of Honea Path, two sisters, Sara Evelyn Smith and Judy F. Garrett, both of Honea Path, three nephews, Jeffrey Smith (Andrea), Joseph Smith (Cartha), James Michel Burgess (Nichole), and two nieces, Sonya La Rocco (Justin), and Barbara Abee (Jonathan).
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel, Honea Path with Rev. Robert Beaver officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Garden of Memories, Belton.
