Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late John Alfred and Wilda Banister Smith. He was a member of Mt Bethel Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. Archie was an avid farmer and veteran of the South Carolina Army National Guard. He retired from BASF.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 63 years of the home are: two sons, Mitch (Annette) Smith and Chad (Angie) Smith, both of Honea Path; two sisters, Nancy Brock and Faye (Bill) Jennings, both of Honea Path; three grandchildren, Austin Cooley, Magan (Matt) Horton, and Erica (Bryar) Fisher; three great-grandchildren, Mattex, Mabel and MaCoy; many special nieces and nephews; loving and devoted caretakers, Mary Hawthorne, Shamekia Teasley and Natasha Smith; and his beloved dog, Bud.
Archie was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pheobe Tuten and Lydia Poore; and three brothers in law, Phillip Brock, Will Tuten and Ted Poore.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Monday, November 20, 2023 at Mt Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Ron Culbertson and Rev. Mark Krieger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home and will receive friends from 1 – 2:30 P.M. Monday at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America at engage.mymsaa.org
