Born in Anderson, she was preceded in death by her parents, Sallie Glenn and James Frederick Acker, three brothers and a son-in-law, David Samuel Greer.
Surviving are her children, Charles M. McCoy, Jr. (Kay), Melissa M. Greer, and Mark B. McCoy (Rhea), grandchildren, Charles McCoy, III (Amber), Amanda M. Booth (Tim), Samantha G. McDowell (Matt), Haley E. Greer, Mia G. TerBeek (Jon), and Ian McCoy, nine great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, a special niece, Mary A. Edwards (Bub) and friend of the family Charlie M. Horton.
Betty attended Anderson College. She was a member of Honea Path First Baptist Church where she served as organist, pianist, choir director, Sunday school teacher and other roles. She worked for Dr. R.O. Carlisle, State Farm Insurance, and McCoy Lumber Company. Betty enjoyed playing bridge and cooking, often taking food out into the community. Her sweet potato pies were a specialty.
Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, March 31, 2023 at Honea Path First Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew McDowell officiating.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends following the service. A special thanks to the staff of The Maples of Honea Path for the wonderful care she received and to Hospice of the Upstate.
