Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Robert Newton and Nona Lee Lollis Bannister. He was a member of Keowee Baptist Church and was retired from his work as a greeter for the S.C. Parks Association. He was a graduate of Belton High School.
Surviving are a son, Hazen Duane Bannister, Jr.(Karon) of Honea Path, a daughter, Roxanne B. Cook of Anderson, three grandchildren, Shane Copeland, Falon Copeland, and Lindsey Shockley, six great-grandchildren, Lily Kate Shockley, Beau Shockley, Michael Griffen Copeland, Zemarion Cormack, Brayden Grey, and Carter Copeland, and a great-great-granddaughter, Selah Copeland.
He was predeceased by his daughter Teresa Lynn Bannister.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Keowee Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
