Born in Anderson County, he was the son of Adger Ellison and Eufied Shirley Wooten. He attended Honea Path Church of God and retired from Greenwood Mills.
Surviving are; three sons, Dennis Wayne (Lisa) Wooten of Belton, Kenneth Gene Wooten and Mark Allen Wooten both of Honea Path: one daughter, Betty Teresa Wooten of Belton: twelve grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Betty, he was predeceased by three sons, Jimmy Ray Wooten, James Wooten, Johnny Wooten and one daughter, Tammy Wooten.
