Born in Anderson County, James attended the Belton Church of God and was a 20 year retired veteran of the South Carolina National Guard. He retired from BASF.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 26 years of the home are: brother and sister-in-laws, Tom (Mary Jo) Bounds of Belton, and brother-in-law, Billy Bagwell of Anderson; sister-in-law, Jean Vaughn of Belton; nieces and nephews, Janet Page, Ricky Patton, Jimmy Vaughn, Steve (Tammy) Vaughn, Chris (Amanda) Jarard, and Jeremy (Tracey) Jarard; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Christian Vaughn, Jessica (Kobe) Baxley, Josiah Jarard, Justus Jarard, Ashlynn Vaughn, Madalyn Vaughn, Elizabeth Baxley, Judah Jarard, and Chole Jarard.
