She was born at home in Laurens County, SC to the late Annie Lee Arnold Stone and James Enoch Stone. Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; her sisters, Annie Katherine Stone Cooley, Mary Evelyn Stone Golden, and Hazel Stone Ridgeway; and her brother James Arnold Stone.
She is survived by her daughter, Jerri Elizabeth Woods White of Ashboro, NC; her sons, James Larry Woods (Linda), and John Alton Woods, Jr. (Melodie); grandchildren Patricia Kala Woods Whatley (Rick), Charles Brian White (Betsy), Kerry Elizabeth White Rake (Chris), Keri Leigh Woods Siler (Devin), and Tania Rey Baldwin Fain (Andy); and eight great-grandchildren, Sims Whatley, Ryan Rake, Tatum White, Adam Rake, Kerrington Siler, Porter Siler, Cameron Fain, and Blake Fain; and a great-great-grandson, Tyvious Frazier.
As a child, Bobbie began school at Mt. Bethel School and graduated from Ware Shoals High, Class of 1943, where she made the most of her school days. She sang in the Glee Club, entered speech contests, acted in plays, served as cheerleader, and belonged to the Beta Club. As a senior, she was voted Most Popular in her class and was accepted to Winthrop College upon graduation in 1943. At the time, the cost of tuition was prohibitive, so she began work at the Riegel Textile Company Store.
Bobbie met her husband, John Alton Woods, when he rode his tractor down Highway 25 to plow her daddy’s fields. Saturday night supper dates led to a commitment that lasted 39 years. They were married on February 12, 1944 at Mt. Bethel Methodist Church.\
Bobbie loved the Lord and exemplified His grace and compassion throughout her life. She taught Sunday School, was active in the United Methodist Women and served on the Administrative Council in several capacities including the Pastor-Parrish Committee. In 1986, she became a certified Lay Speaker and was recognized as Lay Speaker Emeritus. Bobbie blessed Mt. Bethel with thoughtful and prayerful sermons whenever called upon. She also played piano for the Sunday morning worship and other services as needed, using her natural talent for music that she discovered at five years old.
