Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late Thad E.Phillips and the late Ollie Cothran Phillips. He attended Temple Baptist Church in Anderson where he enjoyed the word of God and and was especially fond of their music program. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather that cherished his family and loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman. He worked at Blair Mills and Wellington Mills for many years. He never met a stranger and always had a story to tell.

In addition to his wife of 40 years, he is survived by his children, sons Bobby Phillips (Andrea), Wayne Gambrell (Susan), daughters, Kim Creswell, Dana Phillips (Gary), Tonya Gilstrap (Joey) , and Vicki Bouknight (Craig). He is also survived by a brother, Rev. Dale Phillips (Jean), 18 grandchildren six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Billy Phillips.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Grace Baptist Church, 3400 Highway 252, Honea Path, SC 29654 with Rev. DeWayne Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery.
