Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of James Frank and Mattie Emma Gambrell Young. She was of the Baptist faith and had formerly worked at Reigel Textiles, Chiquola Mills, and Erskine College. Sara loved all her grandkids and enjoyed talking to them about God. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are: two daughters, Frankie Christine Ballard and Angela Hope McGaha, both of Iva; three grandchildren, Billy Joel Ballard of Abbeville, Aaron Ashley of Laurens, and Brook McGaha of Iva; and three great-grandchildren, Kaiden Taylor, Cole Ballard, and Luke Ballard.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Ernest Young, Clyde Young, George Young, and Albert Young; and six sisters, Louise Haynes, Elsie Mae Brock, Helen McGill, Nancy Fields, Ruby Vermillion, and Mary Brock.
Graveside services will be held at 3 P.M. Monday, August 9, 2021 at Due West Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Paul Cooper officiating.
