Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Lonnie Albert McClain and the late Dessie Bannister McClain Gravely. She was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, and worked as a caretaker for the elderly.
Mrs. New is survived by three sons: Roy McClain and wife Joyce of McCormick, Leonard McClain and wife Deborah of Pickens, and Terry McClain of Pickens; two daughters: Rhonda Kelley of Belton and Christie Church and husband Kevin of Boiling Springs; one sister: Etta McClain of Belton; seventeen grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and twenty-six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son: George Thomas New, Jr.; two daughters: Pamela Louise Cliette and Linda Sue New; three brothers: Tommy McClain, James McClain, and Willis McClain; three sisters: Corrie Reid, Mary Veal, and Rachael McClain; and two grandchildren.
