Born in Miami, Florida, she was a daughter of the late Charles Owen and Mary Lois Jonas Armstrong. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she taught the Adult “Beautiful” Sunday School Class. She was a dedicated and longtime employee at White Jones Hardware in Anderson. Joanna was full of life, was always funny, and loved to laugh.
Surviving are: her son, Paul Culbertson of Honea Path; her daughter, Lara Burdette of Belton; her sister, Faye (Bennie) Barras of Summerville; and two grandchildren, Brad Upton and Seth Upton. She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Eugene Owen.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, February 15, 2021 at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Hunter Ramsey and Rev. Archie Sharpe officiating. The family request that face mask be worn and social distancing observed. Burial will be private.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends from 1-2 P.M. Monday at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 220 Friendship Church Rd, Honea Path, SC 29654.
