Debbie Hudgens

Ware Shoals – Deborah “Debbie” Jean Branyon Hudgens, 68, wife of Billy Harris Hudgens for 44 years, of Poplar Springs Road, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Tuesday, November 3, 2020. She took on her diagnosis with the most grace you could imagine, never complaining, only enjoying life as much as possible. She always had a beautiful smile on her face and loved to laugh. She traveled the country with family and friends and saw sights many will never experience. She lived a full life, although gone too soon and will be missed. She was met at Heaven’s gate by her beloved grandchild, Tucker, as she arrived for their reunion.

Born in Greenwood County, she was the daughter of Betty Watkins Branyon and the late Howard Campbell Branyon. She graduated from Ware Shoals High School, Class of 1970 and received an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Development from the University of South Carolina. After the birth of her children, Debbie was a proud stay at home mother and raised her children with a loving heart. She was a member of, and employed by Ware Shoals First Baptist Church as a financial secretary for 19 years. Singing was her joy and she loved singing in the church choir. She had previously worked at Greenwood Christian School as an assistant kindergarten teacher. She loved sewing, scrap booking, crocheting, and being a member of the Ware Shoals and Greenwood Library Clubs. She also served many years as an election poll worker for Greenwood County. Debbie’s world revolved around her family.

Surviving in addition to her devoted husband of the home and her mother of Ware Shoals are: three sons, Will (Jill) Hudgens, Nathan Hudgens, and Lance (Lindsey Davis) Hudgens, all of Ware Shoals; her daughter, Anna Beth (Johnny) Gillis of Lexington; her brother, Dan (Faye) Branyon of Ware Shoals; and seven grandchildren, Christian, Mollie Kate, Benjamin, Audrey, Emmy, Tori, and Zack.

She was predeceased by her father and a grandchild, Tucker Cole Gillis.
