Born in Neeses, S.C. he was a son of the late John Daniel, Sr and Ola Sachs Thompson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps  and was a retired truck driver.

Surviving are a son, Bruce Allan Thompson (Amanda) of Ware Shoals, a brother, Carl Birchmoore of Columbia, a sister Beth Gantt of Columbia, and a grandson, Bryce Thompson. He was pre-deceased by his parents , seven brothers, Marion Thompson, Quincey Thompson, Olin Thompson, James F. Thompson, Stacey Thompson, Charles Thompson , and Frank Birchmoore, and two sisters, Bernell Jackson and Margie Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday at Parker-White Funeral Home Chapel, Ware Shoals with Rev. Don Davis officiating.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Monday at Parker-White Funeral Home prior to the service.
