Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Luther Washington and Addie Jennings Campbell. She was twice married, first to the late Hiott Jr. Ashley. She was a member of Chiquola Baptist Church, and worked as a seamstress for the Honea Path Shirt Plant.
Mrs. Alewine is survived by three sons: Bill Ashley (Margaret) of Belton, Dan Ashley (Paula) of Honea Path, and Freddie Ashley (Stacy) of Honea Path; two daughters: Barbara Sue Medlin (Tim) of Anderson and Judy Elbertson (Tom) of Belton; a step-son: Bill Alewine (Sheila) of Laurens; two sisters: Lillie Phillips and Sybil McCoy; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren
She is preceded in death by one stepson: Bruce Alewine; four brothers: Roy Campbell, Clarence Campbell, Wade Campbell and John Campbell; and two sisters: Helen Phillips and Bobbie Posey.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, September 23, at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Powell, Rev. Paul Cooper, and Rev. Mike Hanley officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
