Born in Elbert County, GA, he was son of the late Walter James and Edna Louise Crittendon Broadwell. James graduated from Hart County High School, class of 1948. He started working at Ameritron in 1949 as a floor sweeper rising to plant manager before joining Milliken & Company, serving as plant manager in Honea Path, Thomson, GA, Boiling Springs and Hartwell, GA. He then joined Intex in 1978, selling textile products for over 20 years. He retired from Rhone-Poulenc. He joined Bethesda United Methodist Church in Hartwell, GA in his early twenty’s. He most recently was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, with the Men’s Club, and on several committees over the years. Jim was an avid outdoorsman that loved hunting, fishing, golf, and gardening.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 69 years of the home are: two sons, James Ernest Broadwell and Richard Keith (Jane) Broadwell, both of Honea Path; his daughter, Susan Broadwell Short of Greenville; two brothers, Charlie (Carolyn) Broadwell and John (Rev. Deborah) Broadwell, both of Anderson; two sisters, Shirley (John) Taylor of Gulf Breeze, FL and Brenda (Bill) Westbrook of Hartwell, GA: five grandchildren, Sandy Robinson, Matt Broadwell, Michael Short, Anna Broadwell and Sarah Silver; and two great-grandchildren, Eli Robinson and Seth Robinson.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; and a brother, Gene Broadwell.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Friday, June 8, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Gayle Summey, Rev. James Patterson and Rev. Deborah Broadwell officiating. Burial will follow in Honea Path City Cemetery.
The family is at the home and will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Thursday evening at Pruitt Funeral Home.
