Born in Greenwood county, she was a daughter of the late Lee and Frances T Bell of Donalds, SC.
As a child she attended Shoals Junction Elementary, a two room school, from the first to the fifth grade. She graduated from Ware Shoals High School with the class of 1960. she then attended Winthrop College where she graduated with a Bachelors degree in 1964. Her first teaching job was at Keowee High in Pickens, SC, teaching home economics. After Keowee High closed, she moved to Greenville, SC where she taught in the Greenville County School system and met her husband, Dick Surles.
Surviving are a son, Ricky Surles (Krista) and grandson Brock of Griffin, GA, two sisters, Sandra Griffin (Walter) of Gastonia, NC, Karen Bell(Harold) of Union, SC and a brother, Robert Bell(Lona) of Hodges,SC.
A memorial service will be held on April 14, 2018 at Greenville Presbyterian Church social hall, 205 Greenville Church Rd, Donalds, SC 29638 at 2 PM with Pastor Tom Pitman officiating.
The Family is at their respective homes and will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2 PM prior to the service at the church social hall.
