Born in Chester, S.C., he was a son of the late Robert Campbell, Sr. and Susan Howze Lake. He was a member, Elder, Choir Member and Sunday School Teacher at Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Korean War. He was a graduate of Whitmire High School, the University of South Carolina, and Emory University Dental School after which he practiced dentistry in Ware Shoals and was on the staff of Self Memorial Hospital. He has served as past-president of the S.C. Dental Association. He was a Master Mason and a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple. Dr. Lake also served on the Board of Heritage Federal Savings and Loan, was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. Dentistry was his profession, people were his life.
Surviving are two sons, John Campbell Lake, Sr. ( Debbie) of Ware Shoals and Matthew Ellison Lake (Tracey) of Easley, seven grandchildren, Katie Lake Pulley, Dr. John Campbell Lake, Jr., Zac Lake, Anna Lake Leieritz, Dr. William Matthew Lake, Dr. Samantha Lake Hollis, and Audra Lake Gravlee, and six great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Kemper David Lake and Robert Campbell Lake, Jr.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at 3 P.M. at Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin Cartee, Rev. Wayne Wicker, and Rev. Stan Reid officiating. Interment will be at 5 PM Sunday at Whitmire City Cemetery.
The family is at the home of a son Campbell Lake, 105 South Greenwood Ave., Ware Shoals and will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. Sunday at the church prior to the service.
