Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late William Robert Lee Ballard and May Chester Fay Sellers Ballard. She was a member of Chiquola Baptist Church, and was retired from Chiquola Mills, where she worked as a Cloth inspector. She also worked in daycare after her retirement. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bawkum is survived by one son: Walter Alexander “Alex” Smith and wife Cathy of Williamston; one daughter: Wanda Smith Ballard and husband Danny of the home; one sister: Louise Horne and husband Pete of Belton, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and special friends: Susan Smith, Linda Brooks, and Lucia Shaw.
She was preceded in death by one great-grandchild: Colt Jennings.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 1st, at 1:00 PM at Chiquola Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Powell officiating. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories.
