Nena Bishop Burts

Laurens – Nena Bishop Burts, 86, widow of William Lewis Burts, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Martha Franks Retirement Center.

Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late James Lonnie and Essie Bagwell Bishop. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and the Mother’s Sunday School Class where she had previously served as Treasurer. Mrs. Burts was retired from Sharpton Company.

Surviving are: two daughters, Wanda (Mike) Melton, and Linda (Dale) Satterfield, both of Laurens, two sisters, Mildred (Carl) Garrett of Laurens and Sue Elledge of Ware Shoals, four grandchildren, Philip (Ellen) Melton, Charlotte (Dennis) McNeill, Caleb Satterfield, and Matthew (Nikki) Satterfield, four great-grandchildren, Seth Ellis Melton, Luke Michael Melton, Isla Rose McNeill (due June,2017), and Matthew Rivers Satterfield (due September,2017), and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Burts was predeceased by three brothers, Lee, Henry, and Everett Bishop, and three sisters, Margaret Gambrell, Barbara Williams, and Marion Ruby Bishop.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Union Baptist Church with her grandson, Rev. Philip Melton and Rev. Chris Garrison officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Garrett, Marcus Bishop, Caleb Satterfield, Matthew Satterfield, Will Sharpton, and Dennis McNeill.
