Mrs. Watkins was born to the late Carol and Rosa Elledge on August 20, 1923. She was married to Lowell Watkins for 54 years, who preceded her in death in 1997.
She was an active member in the community and served on the fundraising committee for the American Cancer Society for many years and also volunteered for the Laurens County Food Pantry. She was a lifelong member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. She adored her family and friends, was a beautiful storyteller, avid reader, and talented artist who enjoyed painting watercolors. She also spent much time sewing quilts and clothes for her children and grandchildren.
She leaves behind her children: Kathy Hettinger (Dwight) of Greenville, and Barry Watkins (Jane) of Gray Court; her grandchildren: Lauri Hettinger, Julie Hettinger Coates (Blake), Jody Watkins (Tisha), Jonathan Watkins (JoDee), and Jeffrey Watkins; and her eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Pam Powell.
Her life will be celebrated at 3 P.M. Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Bruce Ostrom, Mr. Dan Branyon, and Mr. Mark Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church prior to the service.
