Ware Shoals – Stephen “Doc” Leon Gambrell, 61, died at his home on Wednesday, January 18, 2017.
Born in Ware Shoals on July 27, 1955, he was a son of the late Robert Parker and Jessie Mae King Gambrell. Mr. Gambrell was member of Beulah Baptist Church, Abbeville County, a devout Christian who loved to discuss music, God’s Holy Word and pick and pray together with his friends. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a Past Master of the Ware Shoals Lodge 306 A.F.M. Mr. Gambrell was a former member of the band, “Southern Connection”, who after becoming an electrician, continued to play, restore and trade guitars his entire life.
Surviving are his brother, Sam Gambrell and wife Peggy of Spartanburg, his sister, June Shaw of Greenwood, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 3 P.M. on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Parker-White Funeral Home Chapel. Private interment will be held at a later date.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends after the service at Parker-White Funeral Home on Sunday.
