Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Albert and Bessie Mae Thomas Fields. He was a member of Chiquola Baptist Church and a US Army veteran of WWII. Mr. Fields was a member of Centre Lodge A.F.M. and was a long time Deacon at both Bethany Baptist Church and Chiquola Baptist Church. He retired from the Singer plant and was an avid gardener.
Surviving are: four daughters, Brenda Wood of Belton, Sherry (Jim) Senn, Gail (Steve) Riddle and Bonnie (Earle) Ashley, all of Honea Path, eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Chiquola Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Powell and Rev. Brad Haynes officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of a daughter, Gail Riddle, 15 Sandstone Way in Honea Path and will receive friends from 2 -3 P.M. Wednesday at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the Chiquola Baptist Church Building Fund, 405 East Greer Street, Honea Path, SC 29654 or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
