Jean Wilson Parker

Goose Creek – Mrs. Roy E. Parker (Jean) of Marietta Georgia passed away peacefully at her residence at Delmar Gardens in Smyrna, Georgia on September 26, 2016. Jean was born in Charleston, S.C. on September 4, 1920.  She was the daughter of the late James E. Wilson and Helen Latimer Wilson. Her mother died at childbirth and baby Jean was taken to live with her loving Aunt and Uncle, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Erwin of Honea Path, S.C. She gained two loving brothers in the process: Malcolm M. Erwin and Luther L. Erwin.

Jean attended both grammar and high school in Honea Path, S.C. where she excelled in both academics and sports. After graduation she attended Lander College in Greenwood where she graduated with a Commercial Degree and was employed by Liberty Life Insurance Co. in Greenville, S.C.

Jean Married her childhood sweetheart, Chief Warrant Officer Roy E Parker, on February 3, 1946 with the ceremony being officiated by Dr. I.M. Bagnal of Easley, S.C. She joined her new husband Roy in the Canal Zone where he was stationed. Their first child, Bill was born there in 1950. Four years later their daughter Katherine was born in Charleston, S.C. In 1963 they moved to Goose Creek, S.C. where they lived for 47 years until moving to Marietta, Georgia to be closer to their son. During their 47 years in Goose Creek, they formed many lifetime friends and a love for the Goose Creek Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her loving husband Roy of 70 years; her son, William E. Parker of Marietta, Georgia; her daughter, Katherine J. Parker and son-in-law, Brain Gauvin of New Orleans.

Graveside services will be held at 3 PM Friday at Honea Path City Cemetery with Rev. P Cameron Kirker officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the Honea Path Presbyterian Church Social Hall. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Guiding Eyes For The Blind, 611 Granite Springs Road, Yorktown Heights, N.Y. 10598.
