Born in Central, she was a daughter of the late Taylor and Sunnie Arnita Medlin Stewart. She was a member of Laurens First Baptist Church, a former member of Chiquola Baptist Church, and a member of the WMU. She was retired from her work as an inspector for Belton Blanket. She was twice married, first to the late Paul Johnson.
Mrs. Cox is survived by one stepson: Donnie Cox (Mary Lynn); one stepdaughter: Patricia Brock (Bobby); one brother: Rev. David Stewart (Helen) of Charleston; four sisters: Beatrice Brown of San Angelo, TX, Oveline King of Abbeville, Avanelle McCord of Belton, and Betty Woolbright of Athens, GA.
She was predeceased by four brothers: Lewis, James, Samuel and J.T. Stewart; and two sisters: Mary Ramey and Lillian Todd.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 30 at The Garden of Memories with Rev. Rickey Letson and Rev. Russell Dean officiating. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM at the Rasor Chapel at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center.
The family is at their respective homes, and will receive friends Thursday at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center, following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center, 1 Martha Franks Drive, Laurens, SC 29360 or to a charity of one’s choice.
