Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Edgar and Cynthia Gambrell Phillips. He was of the Baptist Faith and retired from the US Army Corp of Engineers. Mr. Phillips was a US Army Veteran of WWII, in which he was a P.O.W. in Austria, and the Korean War.  He was twice married, first to the late Ollie McMillian Phillips.

Surviving are: three sons, Pastor Dale (Jean) Phillips and Danny (Allene) Phillips, all of Honea Path, and Billy (Myra) Phillips of Greenville, an adopted daughter, Ginger Phillips, a brother, Olin (Maude) Phillips of Donald’s, and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Junior Phillips, five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Dale Phillips officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

The family is at the home of his son, Pastor Dale Phillips, 190 Gilkeson Rd, Honea Path, and will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be made to Grace Baptist Church, 3400 Hwy 252, Honea Path, SC 29654.

The family would like to extend their loving gratitude to the CNA’s, nurses, and staff at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home for the exceptional care that Mr. Phillips received while a patient there.
