Charles McCoy

Honea Path – Charles Major McCoy, 86, husband of Betty Acker McCoy, died Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at his home.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Alphus Layfayette and Ina Mae Axmann McCoy. He was member of Honea Path First Baptist Church for 63 years where he worked with the youth and taught Sunday School. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. McCoy was a respected and well known home builder of the Upstate. He was the original owner of McCoy Lumber Co. and C&F Development Co. He was an active board member of BB&T until retirement. He served as President of The Lions Club and Jaycees of Honea Path. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his friends over the years.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 65 years of the home are; his three children, Charles (Chuck) Major McCoy, Jr. (Kay), Melissa McCoy Greer (Sam, deceased), and Mark Bradley McCoy (Rhea), grandchildren, Charles (Trey) Major McCoy, III (Angela), Amanda McCoy Boothe (Tim), Samantha Greer McDowell (Matt), Haley and Mia Greer, and Ian McCoy, great-grandchildren, Morgan McCoy and Coy Boothe, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Frank McCoy (Mary) and Kenneth McCoy (Marie), and four sisters, Wilma Hillhouse (Joe), Vermelle Bolt, Alein McClain (Fleet), and Ina Mae Bolt (Towers).

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2016 at Honea Path First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Moody and Rev. Billy Slatten officiating. Private Inurnment will take place at a later date.

The family is at the home and will receive friends 1:30-3 p.m. Friday at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Honea Path First Baptist Church, 100 S.
