Sara Bowie

Ware Shoals – Sara Watt Bowie, 92, of East Summit Drive, widow of William Maurice “Red” Bowie died Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Self Regional Hospital.

Born in Ware Shoals, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Sallie Robertson Watt. Sara worked alongside her husband, “Red”, as a cashier at Bowie’s Grocery when her motherhood duties would permit. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a competitive sports fan, avid bridge player, and a wonderful cook. One tradition that will be sorely missed is her delicious homemade Christmas fruitcakes each year. She was a long time member of the Ware Shoals First Baptist Church and was also active in the Woman’s Club and her bridge group.

Surviving are one son, Keith (Pam) Bowie of Mount Desert, Maine, three sisters Joan Privette of Columbia, Sylvia Ray of Bishopville and Kay Yonce of Lexington, a daughter-in-law, Rosemary Chandler Bowie of Chapin, a sister-in-law, Bobbie Bowie Smith of Lexington, four grandchildren, Kristin Seifert, John Bowie, Patricia Bowie, and Sara Chandler Bowie, and five great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Jim Bowie, two brothers Claude Watt Jr and James C. Watt, two sisters Margaret Jenkins and Georgia Weaver.

Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Ware Shoals First Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family is at their respective homes, and will receive friends from 12 to 1 P.M. prior to service at the church.
