Born in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Rev. B.B. and Mae Wolfe Black. She was a 59 year member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she loved serving others. She was a past president of the Dogwood Club, a dedicated teacher at Honea Path High School, and loved her community. Her greatest joy was the accomplishment of building The Maples Assisted Living and Senior Care Community with her daughter.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are: a daughter, Malette Gambrell and husband (Grady) of Honea Path; two brothers, John Black and wife (Cathryn) of Greenville and Paul Black and wife (Linda) of Duncan; one sister, Mary Moorer of the Maples; two grandchildren, Sara Gambrell Kotula and husband (Ryan) and Brock Langston Gambrell all of Honea Path and three great grandchildren, Abby, Michael and Jacob Kotula. She was predeceased by one sister, Evangeline Blackwell.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 PM at Trinity UMC with Rev. Gayle Summey, Rev. Frank Lybrand officiating. Burial will follow in the Honea Path City Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-3 PM at the church.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Malette and Grady Gambrell, 1604 Austin Road. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials may be made to Trinity UMC, Box 483, Honea Path SC 29654 or The Maples, 224 Wildwood Drive, Honea Path SC 29654.
