Ware Shoals – Robert Jan Hyatt, 69, husband of Laura Murphy Hyatt, of 2290 Mt. Bethel Rd., died Saturday, September 5, 2015 at his home.

Born in Rochester, NY, he was a son of the late Donald M. and Virginia M. Reeves Hyatt. He was of the Catholic faith, and was a home-builder, retired from Ryan Homes Inc., where he worked for 34 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam Conflict.

Mr. Hyatt volunteered for the Special Olympics, Meals on Wheels, and was a mentor at both Ware Shoals Primary School and at Ford Elementary School in Laurens. He especially enjoyed the years he spent assisting with the Equine Therapeutic Riding Program at Lander University. He was an avid golfer, and loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by one son: Joseph Hyatt (Carolyn) of Summerville; three daughters: Lisa Mary Housden (Charles) of Richmond, VA, Jessica Lambert (Wayne) of Fountain Inn and Kathryn Hyatt (Chris Durham) of Ware Shoals; five brothers: Fr. Donald, Dennis, Daniel, Gregory and Joseph Hyatt; and six grandchildren: Carly, Benjamin, and Gavin Housden, Ryan Lambert, Rosemary Hyatt, and Lincoln Durham.

He was preceded in death by one brother, David Hyatt.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the Little River Multicultural Center with Father Donald Hyatt and Rev. Deryl Fleming officiating.
